Keywords, Business Listings, User Created Content Google Maps Has It All…

When I checked to see where my business listing stood on Google Maps for the search term Virtual Assistant, Ottawa, Ontario I really panicked when I wasn’t even there. I mean, I was there for the term Ultimate Biz Assistant but really, who on earth would ever search for that out of the blue.

So, I put on my Internet Marketing hat and am now happy to report that I am exactly where I wanted to be listed – #1.

It was actually really simple, I just listed my business under my main keywords instead of under my business name.

I now have 6 Google Maps containing my keywords that all point back to Ultimate Biz Assistant.

Oh, and the other really cool feature is the user created content. I was listed #1 for my search term already under user created content – I guess Google loves people who blog and publish their own content regularly.

    Hello, thanks for the article. I have the same issues with my google maps listing . I come up #12 which is on the second page. I have only one listing under my company name: “Millsap & Son’s Quality Lawn Care” . Key words for me would be lawn care Bentonville Arkansas, landscaping Bentonville Arkansas, lawn mowing Bentonville Arkansas etc. Are you say I should have multiple listings in google maps using key word phrases as my company name? And then also add user content? By the way where on google maps do you actually add user content? Thank you!

    I think I answered most of my questions. Here’s a new one- On google maps(local)- I have no “web links” on my profile. How does google come up with the web links for your profile or is the user providing those links to their google profile? Thanks, Marc

    Hi Marc, if you are referring to the links back to your own site as web links I actually put those in the description area myself. It didn’t give me the option to add a link but I just added the http://www and it automatically added it for me.

    My ranking improved immediatly. I think if you are not seeing immediate results you must rework the listing.

    The user created content is the content that you add to Google maps. Basically whatever you choose to map when logged in your account it will be listed under user created content. Google may at some point add this into their search engine so I think getting in early and creating unique maps is key. For example, create maps of interest in your City – popular restaurants, supply shops, daycare’s etc…
