Have Multiple Locations to Promote on Google?

Then please don’t hide that information behind a search form or a POST…

Matt Cutt’s offers a great way to search engine optimize your site for multiple locations.

If you want your store pages to be found, it’s best to have a unique, easily crawlable url for each store. Ideally, you would also create an HTML sitemap that points to the web pages for your stores (and each web page should have a unique url). If you have a relatively small number of stores, you could have a single page that links to all your stores. If you have a lot of stores, you could have a web page for each (say) state that links to all stores in that state. – States Matt

Please refer to his full article: SEO Advice: Make a web page for each store location.

Now, I am wondering if this plan will work if you want to optimize your site for multiple cities even if you don’t actually have a store in each location?

What do you think? How would go about doing this?

How To Add Your Website URL To Google

Have you ever wondered if your site is being indexed by Google?

The good news is that Google is automatically programmed to search the web to find sites to add to their index. However, it is not guaranteed that your site will automatically be picked up and then actually indexed.

How to add your website URL to Google:

  1. First, determine if your site is already indexed by doing a site search. In the Google search box type in site:http://www.yoursite.com. If your site is indexed the search results will be listed.
  2. If your site is not found with the site: search operator then go to the Google Submit URL utility and follow the basic steps to add your site.

How To Check Exactly What is or isn’t being indexed by Google:

Now that you have determined whether or not your site was already indexed, it’s time to take things a step further to ensure going forward you maintain your site’s indexing performance on Google.

  1. Register for Google Webmaster Tools - a free Google Tool that gives you full control over viewing, editing and submitting your content for inclusion in the Google index.
  2. Create an XML sitemap and upload it to your Google Webmaster Tools account – it’s also free and very simple to do with a site called xml-sitemaps.com.

What to do if your site is just not being indexed:

If you have added your URL to Google, and created a Google Webmaster Tools account and find that your site is still not being indexed by Google then take a look at Google Webmaster Site Central’s steps to add your site to Google.

As stated, it could be caused by the design of your site, how many relative sites are linking back to your site, you may have to wait until Google next web crawl as your site may not have been available during the last crawl.

How To Track “Play,” “Pause,” and “Stop” Actions For Your Video Marketing

I found this great Google Analytics – Event Tracking Guide on the Google Code site.

This guide walks you through the steps to learn smart event tracking techniques that you can easily use to monitor your online video marketing with Google Analytics.

It’s simple to track all the “play”, “pause”, and “stop” actions that your website visitors generate while viewing video’s on your website and/or blog.

It’s important to keep in mind that any implementation of Event Tracking that automatically executes on page load will result in a zero bounce rate for the page. Please, take note of this at the very end of the event tracking guide under the heading of “bounce rate impact”.
